Work Parties
Work parties are carried out on the 3rd Sunday of each month.
We usually meet at the old pumping station at around 9.15 am.
Anyone arriving late will usually hear the work being carried out as it is only
a small reserve.
Activities include;
In the summer months we carry out work that does not involve disturbance to wildlife, in particular breeding birds. Activities will include, grass cutting, footpath management, erecting and repairing stock fencing.
The winter welcomes in the heavier work, it will include activities such as coppicing, hedge-laying and planting. Some felling of larger ash trees is carried out as part of restoring the coppiced areas; timber from these is moved and is processed for logs and charcoal.
Working with sheep is also part of habitat management.
The reserve has a small flock of Hebridean sheep which we move to and
from different habitats; husbandry is also a key part of working with them.
Tea and coffee is provided.
Please bring gloves, stout footwear is necessary.
