Habitats & Access
The reserve has three entrances; they are located at the
Caponfield open space, The Commons, between the Baptist Church and Commonswood
School, opposite East Mead and at the bottom of Howlands Hill next to the
Queen Elizabeth 11 hospital service road.
A site orientation board is situated at each entrance and provides
the visitor with a layout of the reserve and general information.
Access for pedestrians throughout the reserve is via way
marked paths, visitors are asked to keep to these pathways and not to wander
into the habitat due to the sensitive management carried out in some areas
of the reserve.
Habitat work and species monitoring will sometimes cause disruption
to access on the site and visitors may find temporary closure or re-direction
of footpaths.
Motorised vehicles, cycles and horse riders are not permitted on the reserve
Dogs
Dogs are permitted on the reserve, however, visitors with dogs are reminded
that their dog must be under close control at all times and must not let them
stray into habitat adjacent to the pathways.
Dogs are required to be place on a lead on the area of Windmill Hill
due to sensitive management of species in this area of the reserve.
Please be especially careful in any other areas where you see sheep
grazing.
